This study employed a qualitative research approach, involving a content analysis of trending movies on Net Naija. A list of the top 50 trending movies on the platform was compiled, and a random sample of 20 movies was selected for in-depth analysis. The selected movies were categorized based on their genre, theme, production year, and director. The analysis also involved a review of user comments, ratings, and views to gauge audience reception and preferences.
Net Naija has emerged as a leading online platform for Nollywood movie enthusiasts, offering a vast library of trending movies, TV shows, and music. With millions of users accessing the site daily, Net Naija has become a go-to destination for fans of African cinema. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the trending movies on Net Naija, exploring their themes, genres, production trends, and the factors contributing to their popularity.
The production trends on Net Naija suggest that filmmakers are adapting to the changing landscape of Nollywood, with a focus on low-budget productions that can be completed quickly and efficiently. The influence of top directors and cast members on trending movies highlights the importance of established talent in attracting audiences.

This study has some limitations. The analysis was based on a sample of trending movies on Net Naija, which may not be representative of the entire Nollywood industry. Additionally, the study relied on user comments, ratings, and views, which may be subject to bias.

The findings suggest that Nollywood audiences crave entertaining and relatable content that reflects their experiences and concerns. As the Nigerian film industry continues to evolve, platforms like Net Naija will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Nollywood and providing audiences with access to a vast library of trending movies.
Future research should explore the impact of streaming platforms on the Nollywood industry, including the effects on traditional distribution channels, revenue streams, and audience engagement. Additionally, studies could investigate the role of social media in shaping audience preferences and influencing the success of trending movies on Net Naija.
