They emerge outside, dawn breaking over the hills. Maya captures the moment on camera. Kira walks past her father without a word.
Tommy, laughing before their last descent. "You always take the hardest way, Leo. That's why I followed you." Act Three: Leo reaches the main cavern. Three miners alive, huddled around a cracked air vent. Among them: Kira Cade, pale but defiant. She says her father’s foreman sabotaged the vent to trigger a collapse — insurance fraud.
Darkness. The sound of dripping water and heavy breathing. A match flares. We see LEO VANCE (40s) , hollow-eyed, his hands trembling. He's in an abandoned mine shaft. On his chest: an old rescue medic badge, scratched out.
RADIO (muffled): "Leo… you there? We got five miners. West tunnel. Air’s going bad."
Post-credits scene: A phone rings in an empty office. A file labeled "The Pitt — Incident 7" opens. A photo of Leo from five years ago, circled in red ink. Handwritten note: "He knows the way."
Leo doesn't answer. He stares at a dented helmet on the ground. A name written in marker: "Tommy."
Leo: "I'm not here for absolution. I'm here because I can still hear them breathing." Leo descends. The tunnel is a character itself — narrow, dripping, with chalk marks from previous cave-ins. His flashlight catches a child's drawing on the rock: "Daddy come home."
Leo sits apart, wet and shivering. Sheriff Billings hands him a flask.
