I woke up this morning with a brass key in my palm. My hand was blistered. The key was warm. And the deadbolt on the closet door was gone. Not unlocked. Gone. Replaced by smooth, unbroken wood, as if it had never existed.

I did not open the door. I taped a towel over the crack at the bottom. I told Mira she was sleeping in my room from now on. I laughed

I slammed the closet door shut. I dragged my dresser in front of it. I taped every seam.
