I recently bought a Seagate Backup Plus drive and needed the software to set up automatic backups and file mirroring. The drive itself is great, but the software download process was more confusing than it should have been.
The software is decent, but Seagate needs to streamline the download process. If you’re patient enough to find the right file, it’s a useful tool. If not, you can still use the drive manually without any software at all.
Here’s a draft review based on the common user experience with the software download process (often involving the Toolkit or Dash software). Title: Works fine once you find the right download link Rating: 3/5
Skip the generic "Seagate Software" page and search directly for "Seagate Toolkit" – that’s the current compatible software for Backup Plus drives. Also, make sure you download the version for your OS (Windows 10/11 vs macOS).
Once I finally got the right version of Seagate Toolkit installed, it did exactly what I needed. The "Mirror" feature (syncs folders from my PC to the drive) is easy to set up, and the backup scheduler works reliably. The interface is clean and simple.
