New Malayalam Cinema is currently the most exciting film industry in the country. It treats its audience like adults. It understands that you don't need a 100-crore budget to make an impact; you need a 100-watt idea.

While the new wave is strong, the old star system (Mammootty, Mohanlal) still exists. For every masterpiece like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (Mammootty), there is a commercial dud like Monster that tries to blend old masala with new logic and fails at both.
